Ethos

We strive in all our work to operate on principles of fairness, sustainability and quality. Our aim is to create good work which will be enjoyed for decades or even centuries to come, and to make it in a manner which has as little negative impact and as much positive impact as we can, without engaging in exploitative or unethical practices.

Fairness

We deal with both clients and sub-contractors openly and fairly. We believe those doing work for us should be paid appropriately for their skills and be given a pleasant and supportive working environment in which to operate.

We employ local craftsmen working in the UK rather than out-sourcing abroad, and we source local British stones and timber by preference.

We’re also aware that some organisations may have more difficulty raising money for works and restoration projects than others, which is why we offer a reduced rate for all ecclesiastical, charity and educational institutions.

Sustainability

We source our materials from ethical and sustainable suppliers wherever possible, favour using renewable energy where our studios allow it, and make all efforts to minimise waste.

By the nature of our craft we favour resources which are natural and biodegradable, and avoid use of materials which are not. Our work is designed to last and be valued for a long time, rather than be swiftly purchased and discarded, and we encourage a slower approach to making and consumption when we discuss our craft.

Quality

The most important factor in longevity is quality, and we fulfil every project with the intention of making something we can be proud to look back on.

As artists we believe we should always be looking for ways to build upon and improve our existing skills, and that this process is one that should develop constantly throughout any artist’s life. No artist should ever believe that they’ve achieved all that that can be achieved in any field, but always be looking for new ways to continue to grow. We improve our knowledge and repertoire in our own time, and each project we undertake is a chance to learn anew and further broaden our experience.

Any project we undertake is executed to the highest quality. We don’t believe in making something we know to be inferior: if we aren’t proud of our work, it’s not ready to leave the studio.
